The Scholarship Letter

Day five began with Zoya's shout.

"Roof! Now!"

The three of them raced upstairs. The school stood two lanes away, but from their rooftop its courtyard lay wide open — and the flagpole at its heart.

The red kite was tangled on the school's flagpole — exactly as the radio had said.
